Translated by Dr. Asim Kumer Bandyopadhyay
About the book: This book is not for scholars of Sanskrit, neither by a scholar of Sanskrit. This is between you and me, a very ordinary person talking to people novice to Sanskrit and Hindu scriptures. If one asks thousand ordinary Hindus at random about Vedanta, not more than one will be able to construct a sentence. But all of them will agree that God is everywhere and is in every living and non living object. That is the beauty of Hinduism. Then why not to tell these novice persons that what their culture taught them is in the very basic scripture of their faith, Hinduism? Veda is synonymous with Hinduism and Vedanta the representative of Veda.
I went to around hundred places and around hundred audiences to preach Vedanta. This I did with rendition of Sanskrit incantations of Esho Keno Katha Mundak upanishads in original Sanskrit. I saw awe reflecting from the people and could perceive the strength of those incantations seen by sages tens of thousands of years ago.
'Swadhyao probochoney cha'. This is from Toitteriyo Upanishada. 'Read Vedas and preach also'. Only reading Vedanta without preaching it is equal to offering oblation to an extinguished fire. In this world of killing children and innocent people in the name of religion, Vedanta is the antidote. Unfortunately after Swami Vivekananda, none except a few came forward with Vedanta in hand. 'Jogoter sokoler Vedanter chorcha kora kyano uchit, tahar..'. This translates to 'Why every human of this world should study Vedanta is firstly because Vedanta is the onlyuniversal religion, secondly amongst all the scriptures of this world the instructions of only it bear complete harmony with the results obtained by scientific analysis of nature, thirdly for its awesome tenability.' This was said by Swamiji in his first speech after returning from America. In my perception, one cannot bypass Vedanta if one wants to infuse feeling of oneness of every being amongst masses. That only truth can usher one to prosperity is undauntedly iterated in Mundak Upanishad. To promote everyone from selfishness to magnanimity, Vedanta is the only recourse.
I respect Sri Nanadulal Goswami as my preceptor in this domain of Vedanta. In his short narration 'On Theism', he disclosed how he encouraged me to continue my studies on Vedanta. I received kind blessings from Pravu Sriniwas Acharya and Pravu Nityananda through him.
I saw many revering Vedanta. But I saw a few who went through it. Dr Partha Sarathi Haldar, my classmate, is one of those few. He encouraged me in this humble hesitant endeavor. In spite of strong denial from him, I succeeded in coaxing him to jot down a few lines in this context. Please see that also.
One day humankind will be wiped out of this planet. But Veda will remain to reappear in new generation of humanity.
